Enhance Capacity for Milk Production Input Quality Certification and Market PromotionWhile a lot is already known about the constraints facing the sector, strengthening industry-level competitiveness requires shared vision, clear and measurable goals and benchmarks, consensus building, collaboration and partnerships, resources, and clear roles and accountability for all industry stakeholders, public and private sector alike. Increasing competitiveness is a value chain initiative that necessitates improvements and upgrading at each step in the value chain-especially on-farm, at milk collection centers and at processing plants.
Land O' Lakes will utilize its in-depth knowledge of and extensive networks within the Kenyan dairy industry to engage industry stakeholders to prioritize policy and market-based solutions that address industry-level constraints to competitiveness, especially those related to improving quality and expanding markets for Kenyan dairy products, through a competitiveness action planning process.
The program will ensure the participation of women in the prioritization and planning process, and ensure that solutions will engender environmentally sustainable measures. The KDSC Program will utilize competitive sub awards program to implement competitiveness action plans, as well as to build the capacity of key industry institutions and associations to increase their ability to support competitiveness-enhancing research, expand value-added service provision and support the enactment and enforcement of standards and policies to improve the quality of milk produced and marketed, and the quality of inputs and services availed to the industry.
